Sometimes films and series are quite instructive, how else should we ever have found out that you can tinker an entire nuclear power plant with a paper clip and old ladies' tights than from MacGyver? Likewise, very few would have ever known that a shot in the leg or arm can hurt, but nothing hurts as much as the nurse's cotton ball, which she uses to clean the wound. But as is usually the case with films and series, most of it is made up. And not just made up, but sometimes also deliberately misrepresented, because the truth is either boring or the viewer just doesn't get it. This is what you get from having always watched Family Stories, Barbara Salesch and Co. Probably the most famous example is the defibrilator - the miracle weapon of every doctor, who lets the last heart, which simply doesn't want to beat anymore, come back to life. Even Dr. House that a defibrillator is only used to stop an arrhythmia.
