Rob Flynn wanted a milestone with the new record «The Blackening» ram into the history path of Metal. Machine Head have thrown all conventions overboard for this album and created a Thrash monster. A monster that reflects almost all facets of its art form and musically pulls out all the stops. And exactly this album is now in my possession 
The album starts with «Clenching The Fists Of Dissent» Machine Head. Here again an acoustic intro, similar to «Imperium» on «Through the Ashes of Empires«. The main riff, which sounds after a good one and a half minutes, sounds absolutely hammer thrashy! A double bass carpet and the bass provide pressure and above that Flynn's howling vocals. After the first refrain, there's the solo and after almost six minutes Demmel and Flynn are soloing so much against each other that even grandma gets wet in her panties.
This record is dark and it has to be, because once again it addresses America's path towards the abyss (Dave von Megadeth - which will be playing in Switzerland on March 3.3.08rd, XNUMX - also addressed this very skillfully on his last album). So it's not surprising when song for song is soaked in anger and riff after riff mill their way into the ear canals. No wonder, too, when you sit flat in the armchair after the eight furious pieces.
Whether it is enough for the milestone remains to be seen. What is certain is that "The Blackening" puts its thumb on the wound - the work of the USA. The last song deals with the downfall of America, the content of the album is to be viewed differently, musically it is a locomotive under continuous fire.
